Weekly Takes - Monday, September 8th Edition
Weekly Takes - Monday, September 8th Edition
  1. Maybe Steve Ballmer and the Clippers are innocent as it relates to Kawhi Leonard’s “no-show” endorsement deal with Aspiration, but they do not deserve the benefit of the doubt from the public.

Kawhi Leonard is not some innocent, quiet man. He, alongside his uncle, knows exactly what they are doing.

And I would put nothing past the Clippers, who tampered with Kawhi (and thus broke league rules) all season long in 2018-19 when Kawhi was on the Raptors.

  1. Jalen Carter should be suspended for spitting on Dak Prescott. It is one of the rare, completely avoidable things that happen on a football field.

It should carry an automatic one game suspension.

  1. I do not think it is dramatic to say the Chiefs cannot afford to lose Xaiver Worthy for an extended amount of time.

No Worthy and Rasheed Rice, with three of their next five games against the Eagles, Ravens, and Lions?

Things can get dark very fast in Kansas City. (Unless they just go out and trade for Tyreek Hill!)

  1. Outside of Broderick Jones’ horrific performance, there are no negatives from the Steelers win over the Jets that I am concerned about moving forward. I fully expect both their run game and run defence to be better.

The biggest takeaway is simply the play of Aaron Rodgers. He can still sling it and that is not up for debate.

The second biggest positive from the game (outside of Chris Boswell still being automatic) was the playcalling from Arthur Smith.

Not only was this the best game from a Steelers quarterback in years, it was the best game from a Steelers offensive coordinator in years.

  1. Surely, at some point, Josh Allen is going to breakthrough and win a Super Bowl.

Yes, Buffalo has an elite offensive line, a solid run game, and a good head coach, but their roster is not even close to being as good as the Ravens.

But they got Josh Allen. And when you have Josh Allen, you are always going to be in the fight.

  1. My biggest takeaways from other Week One games, in no order…

  • Mike McDaniel is not a culture setter. He is an “offensive guru".” If his offence is going to look the way it did against the Colts, he is going to be the first head coach fired in 2025.

  • I had high hopes for Bryce Young going into 2025, after how last season ended. Reality is, he is going to have to show sooner than later that he can perform when the games actually matter. It’s year three.

  • Russell Wilson is cooked. If the Giants think Jaxson Dart is ready, they have to go with him. Franchise tackle, franchise wide receiver, and one of the best pass rushes in football. There is no need to start Wilson if you believe Dart is ready

  • It sure doesn’t look to me that Jayden Daniels or the Commanders are going to take a step back in 2025

  • The Bengals are the Browns having a good kicker away from being the talk of the NFL on Monday. I cannot believe that was how they performed against an awful Browns team, given the pressure on them to get off to a good start this season. Zac Taylor needs to show something eventually.

  • They will win their division, but I struggle to see how the Texans win against any team this season that has a quality pass rush.
