Weekly Takes - Monday, September 22nd Edition

  1. Even with their win over the Patriots, it is tough not to be concerned about the Steelers.

Their defence can get to the quarterback and force turnovers, yes, but their third-down defence + run defence is horrific. When the turnovers dry up, you simply have an awful defence.

Offensively, Arthur Smith has had an awful last two weeks, resorting back to what he was last season. It is a predictable, bland, and limited offence.

  1. Whether it is the Texans neglecting their offensive line or Kansas City neglecting their run game, they are great examples of what happens when you build a flawed team.

Eventually the chickens just come home to roost. You can only get away with neglecting certain things for so many years.

  1. We know this already, but the tush push needs to be banned.

It is a boring, unwatchable play that is nearly impossible to enforce.

Enough is enough already.

  1. Speaking of the Eagles, I am certainly concerned about their offence.

Kevin Patullo looks in over-his-head.

What happened the last time Philly had an offensive coordinator in over-his-head?

  1. It is funny how everyone felt the need, in the summer, to take out an AFC playoff team or two in exchange for new teams.

The Patriots, Raiders, and even Titans were all the fancy, bold picks.

None of them have a chance of making the playoffs. New England does not have the weapons, the Titans may have the worst head coach in the league, and the Raiders simply are not good enough.

The Colts coming in for the Texans may be the only change.

  1. The next time someone tries to argue that head coaching is not every bit as important as the talent on the field, show them the Chargers.

Yes, it is a better offensive line for Justin Herbert relative to prior seasons, but the reason they are 3-0 and not the “same old Chargers” in close games is because of Jim Harbaugh.

  1. Let’s give Caleb Williams a bit more time here.

He showed flashes – yes, just flashes – in his first two starts, but it was against two great defences.

Then he balled out on Sunday, albeit against an awful Cowboys defence.

I am not selling my stock yet. I would surely still take him over Drake Maye, JJ McCarthy, and Michael Pennix,

  1. Throw out all of your opinions on Donald Trump, Charlie Kirk, the murder of Kirk, political violence, etc for a moment.

No matter what your view point is on any of those matters, everyone should be disturbed that ABC has suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live simply because of pressure from The White House.

If ABC suspended airing the show because they did not agree with Kimmel’s comments… ok, that is a separate discussion. But that is not what happened here. They suspended him because The White House wants state media.

This is not about cancel culture. This is not about wokeness on the right. This is about an attack on free speech from an overreaching President.
