Weekly Takes - Monday, November 11 Edition
My three stars from the Maple Leafs win over the Bruins on Tuesday...
1. William Nylander
2. John Tavares
3. Morgan Riley
Another near-perfect game from the Leafs, who have done so now multiple times in one-off situations. Now it's time for them to go on a heater.
My three stars from the Leafs win over the Habs on Saturday...
1. Tavares
2. Mitch Marner
3. Nylander
A lot of people owe Tavares an apology. He is still so, so good.
At 2-9 -- dead last in the Eastern Conference -- it is weird to say, but the Raptors season is off to a dream start.
They have set themselves up amazingly for a high draft pick with such a poor start, yet at the same time, there is not one player on the roster -- who has a future with the team, anyway -- who has not taken positive strides.
This has all the makings of a 2015-2016 Maple Leafs season.
I cannot tell if the Chiefs are bound to go 17-0 after their miracle win over the Broncos on Sunday -- or if they are about to immediately lose to the Bills in Week 11.
I think it is the latter.
There are so many awards still up for grabs in the NFL, but the one race that is over is Coach of the Year.
It is Mike Tomlin's. No one has gotten more out of their team this season than Tomlin. Period.
My Super Bowl Power Rankings, after Week 10...
1. Chiefs (- since Week 5)
2. Lions (+1)
3. Ravens (-1)
4. Bills (+2)
5. Packers (+2)
6. Eagles (New)
7. 49ers (-3)
8. Commanders (New)
Steelers (New)
10. Bengals (New)
Out: The Texans (Their offensive line is awful, mixed in with injuries to key skill players)
I have thought since the start of the season that the Chiefs and Lions are the class of their respective conferences and that has remained true through ten weeks.
The rest of the teams are all flawed, albeit still capable of going on runs. The Ravens' secondary, Jordan Love's meh season, Nick Sirianni's incompetence, the 49ers' health, the Commanders youth and inexperience, the Steelers up-and-down offence, and the Bengals' inconsistencies are all issues for the respective teams below.
But how can you rule out the Ravens with their amazing offence? Or the well-rounded Packers, Eagles, and Steelers? Or the experienced 49ers, who may peak at the right time? Or the Commanders with Jayden Daniels, who would have my MVP vote? Or the Bengals, whose quarterback is playing the best football of his career?
