Weekly Takes - Monday, January 12th Edition

  1. My three stars from the Maple Leafs dominant win over the Panthers on Tuesday…

  1. Steven Lorentz

  2. Bobby McMann

  3. Morgan Rielly

An outstanding performance. They not only matched the Panthers physically, but beat them at their own game.

A great performance by all.

2. My three stars from the Leafs thrilling overtime win over the Flyers on Thursday…

  1. Dennis Hildeby

  2. McMann

  3. Matias Maccelli

Hildeby truly may be the goalie of the future in Toronto. I’m not sure how you make room for Anthony Stolarz, whenever he returns.

3. The Red Sox are not signing Bo Bichette away from having to clean house of their front office.

Trading Rafael Devers, to make Alex Bregman your full-time third basemen, only to lose him to the Cubs less than a year later is criminal.

These are not your older siblings Red Sox.

  1. I love the Wizards trade of Trae Young.

He is unplayable on one side of the court, but he still has the potential to be a franchise cornerstone. You make that trade every day of the week if you are the small-market Wizards.

  1. I would not fire Matt Lafleur if I were the Packers.

In a very tough division and conference, he still managed to make the playoffs, despite an injury riddled season. He out coached Ben Johnson on Saturday. His kicker just didn’t make his kicks.

  1. The Jaguars were an awful Wild Card opponent for the Bills, both on paper and how the game played out on Sunday. James Cook was a total non-factor, as expected.

With that being said, there is not another team left in the AFC that should beat the Bills. Absolutely no one. This is it for the Bills. There will never be a more clearer path.

  1. The Eagles need to fire Nick Sirianni. I am sorry.

I know they won the Super Bowl a year ago, but this offence was inexcusable given all of their talent. Two times in the last three seasons, Sirianni completely botched his coordinator hires on at least one side of the ball.

I can’t have that if I’m an owner.

  1. Kyle Shanahan, meanwhile, may have already topped the best coaching season in modern NFL history.

There is no coach in the modern era that impacts his team’s ability to win on any given Sunday more than Shanahan.

This injury riddled 49ers team has no business playing for a spot in the NFC Championship Game.
